  Renieri Brunello Di Montalcino

   Red               Italian         Tuscany        Sangiovese

Montalcino is a small town, but the name resonates globally for the spectacular wines produced from the vineyards skirting the hill on which the town sits: the Brunello di Montalcino. Brunello (meaning little brown) itself is a colloquial local term for the local clone of the mighty Sangiovese grape - all wines labeled Brunello are made from 100% Sangiovese. It was the first Italian wine region to be awarded DOCG status, and is a by-word for refined, rich red wine. Also produced are the second wines, sometimes second selection grapes rom the same vineyards and oak-aged for a shorter amount of time - these Rosso di Montalcino can provide excellent value, and very high quality drinking.

An impressively complex, multi-layered nose characterized by dark red berry fruit, vanilla, and abundant notes of pungent pencil lead and tobacco leaf. The wine shows considerable power on the palate, held nicely in check by supple tannins. The finish is notable not only for its elegant balance but also for its length as well, lingering on the tasters palate for many minutes.

Red roasted meats, poultry, game, bruschetta, and aged cheese and Indian food.
